Robbery 2nd Degree
The client was at a bar when he grabbed a wallet that was sitting on the bar top and attempted to leave with it. The victim noticed the client's actions and grabbed him by the arm before he got to the door. The client then punched the victim in the face, knocking her to the floor, dropped the wallet, and left. Unfortunately for the client, the bar had an unusually clear video system that was pointing directly at the area where all this occurred. Given the nature of this video evidence, the prosecution had little incentive to negotiate a deal, and the offer was a 10-year prison sentence. At trial, Ruth was able to convince a jury that the videotaped actions did not constitute the elements of the crime charged, and they returned a verdict of not guilty.
